Community Mural Project: South Boston Boys and Girls Club November 2012
In November 2012, Jewish young adults through ReachOut! participated in a tile mural project at the South Boston Boys and Girls Club that was led by The MEM Project. 10 young adults worked with 15 youth to design and paint individual tiles inspired by the theme of "Reaching Out" to create four 3'x3' panels to be installed in the Club's stairwells. Through their artwork, participants explored ideas related to reaching out to help people in need, reaching out to help friends, and reaching for the stars. Youth shared that they enjoyed being creative, meeting new people, and working together. They also noted that they think having the artwork on the wall might make other kids think about "not being mean" and "helping each other more." Their tiles combined with the tiles painted at the Downtown Lunchtime Mural Series earlier this year to create 36 tiles that complete the mural panels. Many thanks to Alyse, Ann, Sarah, and Jordyn for their help!
