Past Jewish Art Workshop: Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters MAGIC Event September 2013
The MEM Project collaborated with Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters' Friend 2 Friend program and welcomed over 75 participants to a MAGIC event in September. Participants engaged in a fun art activity individually as well as collectively, and created two works of art - one to take home and the other to contribute to a colorful installation in the Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters office. Themes of self reflection and friendship were explored through color and collaborative art-making. The idea of the mandala (Sanskrit for "Magic Circle") was used to represent and reflect the inner self, especially relevant given that the high holidays are a time for reflection over the past year. Flowers were created to give as gifts to each other and Friends worked together to create 36 circles representing their reflections on JBBBS and the F2F program. Friend 2 Friend's innovative work with people with different abilities is now celebrated in the JBBBS waiting area through a colorful display reflecting their participants' vibrancy and spirit.
